Electrical points are small on a drawing but highly visible in a finished interior. A switchboard placed behind a door, a socket hidden by a bedside table, a pendant that misses the dining table centre or an air-conditioning point that conflicts with a wardrobe can all weaken an otherwise carefully designed space. We therefore treat electrical planning as part of architecture and interiors rather than as a late technical overlay.
The process begins with furniture and equipment. We establish where televisions, beds, desks, kitchen appliances, mirrors, art, outdoor equipment and utility machines will sit. Lighting is then layered according to task and mood. Switching is planned so rooms can be controlled logically from entrances, bedsides and key circulation points. Power points are located where they can be reached without dominating the walls.
For villas and larger homes, coordination can extend to stair lighting, landscape points, façade lighting, home automation provisions, pumps, gates, security devices and backup-power requirements. Commercial projects may need denser equipment planning and clearer zoning. Specialist load calculations and engineering requirements are coordinated with the appropriate consultant where needed.
General, task and accent lighting are positioned in relation to ceilings, furniture, artwork and architectural features. We avoid arbitrary grids where the room function calls for a more considered arrangement.
Switch groups, two-way controls, dimming provisions and bedside controls are planned for intuitive use. Clear switching logic is especially important in large rooms and multi-level homes.
Sockets are coordinated with kitchens, wardrobes, media units, workstations, vanities, utility equipment and loose furniture so cables and extensions are minimised.
Electrical points are cross-checked with ceiling details, air-conditioning and custom joinery. This is essential where lights, drivers, channels or sockets need to be integrated into built-in elements.
Design Approach
We review lighting according to how a room changes through the day. A kitchen needs clear task light. A living room may need softer evening scenes. A bedroom benefits from controls that can be reached from the bed. Corridors and stairs need safe night-time movement. Outdoor areas require weather-suitable fittings and controlled brightness. One uniform lighting approach rarely serves all of these uses well.
Power planning follows equipment and furniture. Television walls, study desks, kitchen appliances, dressing areas and utility spaces each need different combinations of sockets and dedicated connections. Planning them against actual layouts reduces visible wiring and prevents the common problem of useful wall sockets ending up behind fixed furniture.
Where automation or smart-home systems are considered, early planning becomes even more important because control modules, sensors and network equipment may need dedicated locations. We coordinate the spatial requirements with the specialist supplier while keeping switch locations and user experience consistent with the interior design.

Planning these requirements before electrical conduits and wall finishes are fixed makes the final installation cleaner and easier to use.

The Process
Why It Matters
Electrical changes are easy when they are marks on a plan and much harder after conduits, plaster, ceilings, stone and carpentry are complete. Late changes can require cutting finished surfaces or accepting awkward positions. A resolved electrical drawing allows the client and design team to review requirements while there is still flexibility.
The drawings also create a common language between the client, architect, electrician and other consultants. They help the team count points, discuss circuits, identify equipment loads and confirm locations. Where specialist electrical engineering is required, the design layout provides a spatial basis that can be checked against technical calculations and distribution requirements.
Before We Begin
Furniture and appliance information greatly improves an electrical layout. Knowing bed widths, television positions, desk locations, kitchen equipment and vanity arrangements allows sockets and controls to be placed where they will actually be reachable. Even approximate equipment schedules are more useful than designing points without any reference to use.
Lighting decisions benefit from a similar level of clarity. We discuss whether the client prefers bright, evenly lit rooms or softer layered lighting, where decorative fixtures are expected, which areas need strong task light, and whether dimming or scene controls are important. Fixture selection can happen later, but the intended lighting strategy should be understood before ceiling and wiring work is fixed.
For larger projects, specialist systems such as security, data, automation, audio, solar or backup power may require additional vendors or consultants. Identifying them early allows space, conduits and control locations to be reserved rather than added after finishes are complete.
The finished electrical layout should be easy to read in relation to the space. A client reviewing a bedroom should understand where bedside controls and sockets will be. An electrician should understand point locations. The interior team should be able to coordinate joinery and ceilings around those points. Where engineering calculations or circuit schedules are provided separately, the spatial layout should still align with them so technical requirements and design intent are not working from different assumptions.
